There's definitely a couple of themes running through today's selection. The gangster cumbias of Buenos Aires, bar room folk music from Glasgow and a shanty from Nantes speak of tough cities with faces turned to the sea. Of course, the French language links Nantes to some of France's greatest. As usual in my lists, chanteuses like Juliette Gréco and Mireille Mathieu stand out. But Brel, Trenet and Brassens hold up the male end.
