Amália Rodrigues and folk

Amália Rodrigues,'Rainha do Fado' ("Queen of Fado"), dominates today's list. And, given the nickname, no one will be surprised that Fado is her primary genre. A bit of a paradox. A financial supporter of the Portuguese communist party who apparently admired the dictator Salazar. I first came across her via her album of Italian traditional songs, A Una Terra Che Amo (1973). Which is why she also appears in the listing for today's featured song “Amor dammi quel fazzolettino”. The English language selection keeps the folky feel going. 1970 is just an excuse to sneak in some soul.
