You'll Never Walk Alone, Barbara

There's rarely a week goes by without me listening to a substantial serving of classic Chanson. Today's sample comes from Barbara. I enjoy most of her tracks, but I've never really understood her god-like status in France. There are just too many 'fails' in her catalogue for my test. Perhaps her status owes as much to her character and backstory as it does the tunes? “You'll Never Walk Alone” needs little introduction. But if you've only got time for one track, skip Gerry Marsden and jump straight to Roy Hamilton. 1972 provides a familiar mixture of mainstream and Northern Soul. It's Portuguese Saturday.
