My first memories of hearing “Your Cheatin' Heart” are in Patsy Cline's voice. And that version is what sticks in my mind as the canonical version, despite my subsequent realisation that it was exactly the right kind of song for Hank Williams. Later discovery that the song had been covered by so many R&B and Pop-Rock performers only enhanced my affection for it. Of course, traditional folk has been raided by every other genre since they've existed, but the most visible direction of travel between R&B and Country has been in the other direction over recent decades. This song, however, is a pretty clear demonstration of the common ancestry shared by all these genres.
