Reggae, Shoals o Herrin'

It's just time for some Reggae. I've been a part-time fan since the early 70s. It's always lived in the shadow of my first love — Northern Soul — but it's also always dragged back, often in the same dance hall on the same night. Today's sample is a not-very-representative cross section of the genre from the mid-1960s to the mid twenty teens. Shoals o Herrin is one of my favourites out of the MacColl stable. And it always reminds how much of MacColl's early stuff sounded like the tune came from a 50s western soundtrack. The 1959 selection has a definite whiff of 'the road to soul'. Not least, because it features a few Northern classics. It's Spanish Friday.
