Four coins, tell me ma'

Las Cuatro Monedas are probably best known, if known at all, as Venezuela's pioneers of Reggae and Ska. Their family origin as “Los Hermanos O'Brien” suggests something of an anglo-celtic connection. Which mirrors my recent discovery of Venezuelan influences on the evolution of Calypso and Soca in nearby Trinidad and Tobgo. That said, I actually stumbled upon them during a search for Spanish language soul. With “Respeto (Respect)” and “Tu No Eres Bueno (You're No Good)” being the obvious examples here. The O'Brien name provides a fortuitous link to the featured Irish folk classic “I'll Tell Me Ma”. While the rest of today's selection is decidedly Portuguese, with my usual bias towards its Brazilian branch.
