Patricio Manns, Braw, Braw Lads

Today's a day for Scotland and Latin America. Patricio Manns, one of the founders of Chile's Nueva canción, is the featured artist. Obviously, that meant that he was also prominent in the successful Unidad Popular election campaign. And, that he was forced into exile under Pinochet. When he became one of many Chilean musicians leading the resistance. Outstanding legal threats meant that he was one of the last to return after the restoration of limited democracy. Glasgow is the featured city, again. Because it just has so many songs. “Braw Lads O' Gala Water” is the featured song, for the same reasons that I usually feature folk songs — I like it and want to properly learn the words. Latin American gets a second nod, because it's Portuguese Saturday.
