Boogaloo, Saluteremo il signor padrone

Boogaloo. Long before the term was appropriated by right-wing nutjobs, it represented what you'll hear here — the fusion of Soul/R&B and Latin pop rhythms. The mainstream story posits the genre as product of encounters between Harlem's Black and Perto Rican communities. And there's plenty of truth in that, but it's not the whole story. The bigger picture takes in a much wider range of time and space. Going back to the Latin wave in 1950s Jazz and R&B and across The Americas in their entirety. My own collection has almost as many tracks from Brazil as the USA. And many more from Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole.
